Day 25: A Movie No One Would Expect You To Love

For a prompt like this, I’m guessing no one would expect me to love something like The Gay Divorcee (1934) or Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016). But we’re still talking noir on this blog, so I imagine no one reading this will expect me not to love every and any noir. But perhaps the extremes will surprise you?

KISS ME DEADLY (1955)

kiss me

I say this may be unexpected primarily because the first time I saw it, I didn’t like it at all. I found it excessive in its violence of mind and deed. I disliked Meeker and found him more detestable than anti-heroic. Subsequent viewings, however, have enlightened me as to the function of the film as commentary on noir excesses and their breaking point. It’s fun to watch now that I see it this way.
